PSY4203 – Emotional Development
Course description
Course content
This course seeks to transmit both classical and recent knowledge about the nature, causes and consequences of a wide range of emotional phenomena (e.g. experience, expression, recognition, control, regulation, understanding) from a psychological and developmental perspective (both typical and non-typical). It also seeks to transmit knowledge and skills about various methods to research and assess (and promote) emotional development. The necessity to integrate research and practice, as well as different psychological perspectives (e.g. health, social, personality, culture psychology), are also central themes in this course. Emotional topics may change from one year to another (e.g. in relation with students' and teachers' interests).

- Conduct an advanced (theoretical and empirical) research on emotional development (planning, execution, reporting, and evaluation).

Admission

This course is obligatory for students enrolled in the Master's Degree in Pscyhology, Developmental Psychology. The course is not open to other students.
Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
The course build on the knowledge from a bachelor degree in psychology with a major in developmental psychology.
Overlapping courses
No overlap with other courses.
Teaching
Teaching is given through seminars and lectures. Students are expected to be active in both (e.g. personal response system, group presentation, workshop, self-assessment, peer-evaluation, video-recording).
The attendance to the six lectures is strongly recommended whereas the attendance to the 12 seminars is compulsory. You are allowed to be absent from two seminars if agreed with the course coordinator.
Access to teaching
A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but who has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on available capacity.
Examination
The exam is a group presentation.

It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
