          <h2 id="course_content">Course content</h2>
          <p>This course provides an introduction into epidemiological and public health perspectives on mental health and wellbeing. The course will focus on theoretical and empirical accounts of how wellbeing and common mental health problems (including symptoms of anxiety and depression, weight/eating problems, conduct problems, alcohol and other drug use) are understood in an epidemiological and public health perspective.</p><p>Cultural, individual differences, and lifespan approaches to mental health and wellbeing will be an integrated part of the course.</p>
        
      
        
        
          
            
          
          <h2 id="learning_outcomes">Learning outcome</h2>
          <p><strong>Knowledge </strong></p><p>You should be able to:</p><ul><li>describe basic concepts in epidemiology and public health</li><li>clarify influential current conceptualizations of wellbeing, mental health, and mental disorders</li><li>present and discuss essential empirical studies and theoretical accounts of risk factors, protective factors, and developmental trajectories of common mental health problems</li><li>describe theoretical and empirical accounts of correlates and prevalence of wellbeing</li><li>critically discuss the individual and societal consequences of mental health problems and low wellbeing</li><li>describe theoretical and empirical foundations of lifespan approaches to mental health and wellbeing</li><li>discuss cultural differences in and time trends of mental health and wellbein</li></ul><p><strong>Skills </strong></p><p>You should be able to:</p><ul><li>communicate that mental health and wellbeing are multifaceted phenomena that are determined by a variety of factors at different explanatory levels (individual, group, cultural/societal);</li><li>communicate epidemiological aspects of mental health and wellbeing.</li></ul><p><strong>General competence </strong></p><p>You should be able to:</p><ul><li>elucidate the major challenges concerning mental health and wellbeing in today’s society</li><li>critically evaluate epidemiological research and conclusions that are drawn from such research</li></ul>

          <p>It is recommended to have completed introductory bachelor course in development psychology <a href="/studier/emner/sv/psykologi/PSY1200/">PSY1200- Introduction to development psychology</a> and methods <a href="/studier/emner/sv/psykologi/PSY1010/">PSY1010- Innf?ring i metode </a>or equivalent</p>

          <p>Teaching trough lectures and seminars.</p><p>The seminars are mandatory with attendance<strong> 5 out of 7 times.</strong></p><p>If plan on not attending the seminars, please chose seminar 99 - self study in Studentweb. At this seminar you have to do a compensating task which will be given in Canvas. You need to get the compensating task approved to be able to take the exam.?</p><p><strong>Approved mandatory activity is valid for the next two semesters that the course will be held. </strong></p><p>Information about <a href="/studier/registrering/semesterregistrering/bytte-seminargruppe/seminarbytte-sv.html">changing seminar groups. </a></p><p>Mandatory activities are also covered by the rules on?<a href="/english/studies/examinations/cheating/index.html">cheating - University of Oslo</a>. Signing attendance lists on behalf of others is considered cheating/dishonest behavior.
