Course content
A short master thesis corresponds to half a year of full time study and constitutes one fourth of the master study.

Learning outcome
The Master's program in Mathematics provides a solid theoretical foundation in mathematics. The program is designed to develop your ability for analytical thinking and to take a structured approach to complex problems. It trains you to familiarize yourself with new theoretical areas and to apply different theories.
The Master's program will give you experience in working independently while also being part of a research group. The format of the program will provide you with training in organizing and planning your work so that the project is completed in accordance with allocated resources and within set deadlines.
The program will train you to analyze, evaluate, and communicate information, theories, ideas, issues, and solutions in your own field both in writing and orally.
Admission
The master thesis is a compulsory part of the master program Mathematics and requires admission into this study program.
Teaching
Working with the master thesis you will carry out an independent, time limited research and development project under supervision.
The work on the master's thesis should be completed in one semester. It is not possible to complete a short master's thesis in the first semester of the master's program.
Examination
A master thesis of 30 credits shall be submitted within a deadline. Then there is an oral presentation of the master thesis and an examination.
Language of examination
You may write your examination paper in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.
