Here is tonight's exam and my solution. Let me know if something is unclear or (!) wrong.

On the upcoming exam I will be available on Zoom from 1530 to 1830. Note that the waiting room feature will be used, so you may not get through immediately. Contact me by email if you have trouble with the link during the exam.

In general, the following guidelines apply in courses at the Department of Mathematics: 
- The examination lasts 4 hours. In addition, you will have an extra 30 minutes to scan and upload your PDF. 
- All examination aids are allowed (e.g. books, online resources, scientific programming tools, etc.). 
- It is not allowed to collaborate or communicate with others during the exam about the assignments. 

- You can be picked out for a meeting to check that you understand the content of your examination attempt. The meeting will not affect your grade, but it can result in a formal investigation into possible cheating. • The exam set will be comprised of six problems with a total of ten subproblems. All subproblems count 10% towards the final grade.
• In at least one subproblem you may find material from AMoLM useful. The final curriculum is here.
• I will be available on Zoom for most of the exam. The link will be the same as the one used throughout the course and will also be reposted on the course page.
• The slides from my review lectures are here: 1, 2, 3, 4.
• Information on which old exam problems that are still relevant is here. Note that the exam from 2020 had a duration for one week, so it is slightly less relevant.

The repetition lectures on May 10, 16, 23 and 24 will be organized as follows.

• Each lecture covers roughly 25% of the curriculum, in chronological order.
• The first part of the lecture will be a presentation of some important concepts and results from this part of the course. Also included is a discussion of some pertinent problem solving techniques.
• In the second part of the lecture will be devoted to one or two related old exam problems. I will only briefly discuss the problems and you will be given time to work on independently while I answer questions. 
• If you want, you can hand in your solution to me (either at the end of the lecture or by email later in the day) and I will grade it before the next lecture.

I have updated the schedule with a plan for the remainder of the term. On Monday, 9 May I will present some of my recent research on Hilbert points. The final curriculum is also ready.

The first lecture after Easter is on Tuesday, 19 April. We will finish ELA Section 2.2.

I have looked at the remaining material we need to cover and there is some flexibility in the schedule. During Lecture 25 we will also discuss how to deal with this.

• Should we allocate more time for repetition and/or other exam preparation?

The exercise session tomorrow will be physical, but truncated. I will arrive early at 1200 and leave very early at 1245. I am available in my office earlier in the day.

I remain sick. The physical lectures on Monday 4 April and Tuesday 5 April will be replaced by video lectures. There will also be a short Zoom lecture on Tuesday 14:15¨C15:00, where I will try to set out our goals for Chapter 4 in ELA.

Should I not recover in time for the exercise session on Friday 8 April it will be moved to Zoom. This potential change will be announced on Thursday (in the schedule).

Here are our suggested solutions to the mandatory assignment. Please let me know is something is unclear or (!) wrong.

For some of the problems there are alternative solutions. Some of these are more elegant than what we have suggested.

Two small comments:

• In Problem 1 (e) we expected you to prove by combinatorial reasoning that there are 52 partitions of Z and not simply refer to the OEIS. We took points away if you omitted this, but only if you were still passing the assignment.
• Problem 2 (a) was slightly more finicky than we expected, but the technical details are not insurmountable.

I am generally impressed with what many of you have performed.

We will cover ELA Chapter 2 in the lectures of week 10. There are also two sources of supplementary material:

• The material in Lecture 15 is for the most part also covered in Spaces Section 7.7.
• The material in Lecture 15 and Lecture 16 is (with one notable exception) covered by the videos from 2021.

Due to a fire in Vilhelm Bjerknes hus last week the exercise session on Friday will be held in room 107 in Niels Henrik Abels Hus.

Starting from next week, the exercise sessions will be physical. Should they return to digital again, this will be announced.

• I have typed up all the theorems appearing in the first ten video lectures.
• We now have a student representative (with room for one more).
• There are new regulations for mandatory assignments. The main change is that you now only have one attempt to pass it. In compensation, I aim to offer personal feedback on your mandatory assignment before you hand it. More information on how this will be organized later.

We begin with some bad news.

1. Due to the pandemic, the department has decided on digital teaching in January. This pertains only to the first two weeks of teaching, but it is impossible to predict what will happen thereafter. In the interest of predictability, we have decided on digital teaching for (at least) the first five weeks. 
2. Padlet is now (!) illegal. We are currently looking into options which will not result in hefty fines and/or jail time. 

For weeks 3¨C7, the teaching will be organized as follows.

• The main presentation of the material is a video series.
• On Tuesdays 14:15¨C16:00, there will be a short review lecture on that weeks material on Zoom. These lectures will be based on the assumption that you have worked through the videos in advance. There will be ample time for que...
