How to use SafeShare

First, you upload a file of a maximum of 15MB, and set a password. When you click 'Send' you will get a link that you can copy and share. The link recipient will be able to download the file by clicking on the link, and then entering the correct password.

It is important to send the link and password in different channels (e.g. email and SMS) and if you share yellow or red data this is required.

1. Open SafeShare in your browser

2. Upload a file

Click on 'Attach a file' and select the file you want to upload. SafeShare only accepts one file at a time, so if you want to share multiple files, you have to zip them first. Note that the maximum file size is 15 MB.

3. Set a password

Password protecting you file is important, so that not anyone who may get a hold of the link can download the file. Save the password for later.

4. Other settings

'Burn after reading' is a security measure that ensures that the link can only be opened once. The recipient can then download the file from the website, but cannot open the link multiple times. This is the default setting, and is recommended as long as only one person is intended to receive the file.

'Expires' is how long the link will be available. The default setting is 1 day, which means that the file is deleted and the link becomes invalid after 24 hours. This is both a security measure and a resource-saving measure.

5. Share the file

Click the 'Send' button. This will load a new page with a link that you can copy and share.

The link points to a website where the recipient can download the file. The page can only be opened if the recipient enters the correct password. This means that it is very important to share the link and password in separate channels; if you send both to an external recipient via e-mail, it becomes as risky as sending the file as an attachment. You can use email to share the link, and e.g. SMS, Teams or Zoom to share the password.
