There are some limitations on what types of devices can be connected to Lab IT:
- Lab IT is for equipment and machines that are connected through the wired network. Wireless devices cannot be connected to Lab-IT.
- The Lab IT network is locked down, so connections to external cloud services are not possible without special approval.
- Devices connected to Lab IT must only be used for research purposes. Software such as Microsoft cloud services, Spotify, most websites, and other tools that are not relevant for the research will not be available on the machine.
- It is not possible to run RDP or TeamViewer on a device connected to Lab-IT. Remote access is provided via the lab-portal.
- If the equipment uses specialized software, this may need to be pre-approved for security reasons; see the separate application process for new services (Norwegian only).
Recommendations for collection and analysis of data from the lab equipment:
- It is recommended that collected data is continuously transferred to approved UiO storage, and that data analysis is carried out from an office computer against the storage solution.
- It is not recommended to perform data analysis directly on the machine. This is due both to limited access to software and internet services, and to the fact that data stored on the machine may not necessarily be backed up.
