Access
New students get access to Canvas when the semester begins. NOTE: You must be enrolled in a course at the University of Oslo before you can get access to Canvas.
- If you are enrolled in a single course (enkeltemne), you will not get access to Canvas until after your semester fee is paid.
- Only taking the exam? Students that are only enrolled in the exam will for some courses get access to the course's Canvas room for that semester. If you do not automatically get access to the Canvas room contact the study coordinator responsible for the course.

Use Mine studier (My studies) (minestudier.no) for the following:
- Schedule: You have a personal course schedule in My studies, not i Canvas. You will also find deadlines for assignments and other events from your Canvas rooms in My studies.
- Messages (announcements): Messages from your Canvas rooms and your study programme/course webpages on uio.no are sent to you in My Studies.
- Notifications: You get notifications and messages from Canvas in the My Studies mobile app.?Remember to also?set your notification preferences in Canvas (instructure.com).

Ally
Ally?is a built-in tool in Canvas that improves the accessibility of documents and webpages. Ally provides students with alternative formats which make it easier for you to read and use the content in Canvas. Ally can be used on documents (PowerPoint, PDF and Word), pages, assignments, quizzes, announcements and discussions in Canvas.
Other built-in accessibility functions in Canvas
Canvas also has other functions that support users with impaired functional abilities: a high contrast interface, dyslexia-friendly font, etc.

- Microsoft Immersive Reader: a useful tool for the visually impaired and for people with reading challenges such as dyslexia
- Dyslexia-friendly font (canvaslms.com): when this is enabled the Canvas interface displays OpenDyslexic font to make content more easily readable for users with dyslexia
- High contrast user interface (UI) (canvaslms.com): when this is enabled it improves the color contrast for text, buttons, etc. in Canvas
Dokumentation of Canvas' accessibility
As a public institution the University of Oslo is legally required to publish accessibility statements for its websites and apps that are used in teaching, exams and dissemination of information. The statements document the status of accessibility, including any violations of the requirements, and must be available for all users. The purpose is to inform users about accessibility and give them the opportunity to provide feedback about problems. The statements are currently only in Norwegian.

Mobile app
We recommend that you primarily use canvas.uio.no on a laptop or desktop PC to keep track of your courses throughout the semester. You can also download the mobile app for Canvas, which will let you access your courses on the go.
The mobile version has somewhat limited functionality compared to the browser version of Canvas, but is useful for keeping up to date with notifications and announcements when you are away from your computer.
Use the mobile app without internet
Offline mode makes it possible for you to syncronize the course content in your mobile app and study even when you don't have internet access. See this guide from Instructure for more information.
