Open PDF files
With PDFgear you have the option to read PDF files directly in the program.
- Open PDFgear
- Start by opening the PDFgear program in the UiO Program Kiosk.
- Go to Open file
- In the menu on the left, click Open File.

- Select the file
- Then select the file you want to open and read. Then click open.

- Read the PDF file
- When you have selected the PDF file you want to open, it will open in the program and you can now start using the PDF file.

Create PDF files
With PDFgear you have the option to create PDF files directly in the program.
- Open PDFgear
- Start by opening the PDFgear program in the UiO Program Kiosk.
- Go to Create File
- In the menu on the left, click Create File.
- Then choose how you want to create a new PDF file, for example select Blank PDF.

- Edit the PDF file
- When you have created the PDF file you want, it will open in the program and you can now edit the PDF file.

Edit PDF files
With PDFgear you have the option to edit PDF files directly in the program. The program offers various tools for how you can edit your PDF file.
Highlighting in the PDF file:
- Open PDFgear
- Start by opening the PDFgear program in the UiO Program Kiosk. Then open the PDF file you want to highlight in.
- Go to the Comment tab
- In the tab at the top, click Comment.

- Select desired method
- Then select the method you want to use to highlight in the PDF file, for example choose Highlight or another method.

- Start highlighting
- When you have selected the desired method for highlighting and any color, you can start highlighting text in the PDF file.
- When you have highlighted the desired text, you will see that it is highlighted in the color you have chosen.

Edit elements in the PDF file:
- Open PDFgear
- Start by opening the PDFgear program in the UiO Program Kiosk. Then open the PDF file you want to edit.
- Go to the Edit tab
- In the tab at the top, click Edit.

- Select desired method
- Then select the method you want to use to edit elements in the PDF file, for example choose Edit Object or another method.
- It is also possible to add other elements such as text, images, links, signatures, and more.

- Start editing
- When you have selected the desired method for editing, for example Edit Object, you can select the object you want to edit. The program will automatically search for text and elements in the file that can be edited.
- When you have edited what you want, you will see that this changes in the PDF file.

Merge PDF files into one file
With PDFgear you have the option to merge several PDF files into one PDF file.
- Open PDFgear
- Start by opening the PDFgear program in the UiO Program Kiosk.
- Go to Open file
- In the menu on the left, click Open File.
- Then open the first file you want to merge.

- Go to the Page tab
- When you have opened the first PDF file, select the Page tab at the top of the menu bar.

- Add more files
- When you have gone to the Page tab, then select Insert Pages.
- Then choose the file type you want to merge into a PDF, for example select From PDF.

- Insert the file
- When you have found the file(s) you want to merge into a PDF, open them, then click Ok to add the files.

- Save the PDF file
- When you have inserted the files you want to merge into a PDF, you will see that the pages appear in the program.
- Remember to save the PDF file by clicking the save icon in the upper left corner.

Convert from PDF
With PDFgear you have the option to convert PDF files to, for example, Word or PPT files.
- Open PDFgear
- Start by opening the PDFgear program in the UiO Program Kiosk.
- Go to Convert From PDF
- Go to the tab called Convert from PDF.

- Select file type
- Then select the file type you want to convert the PDF file to. For example, choose PDF to Word.

- Select PDF file
- Select the PDF file you want to convert by clicking Add File, find the file and then add it.

- Select location
- Choose where you want to place the file you are going to convert; you can change this by clicking the three dots (...) next to Output Path.

- Convert the file
- When you have selected the file and location for the file, click Convert to convert the PDF file to the selected file type.

- Use the file
- When you have converted the file, you can locate the file and start using it.
Convert to PDF
With PDFgear you have the option to convert, for example, Word or PPT files to PDF files.
- Open PDFgear
- Start by opening the PDFgear program in the UiO Program Kiosk.
- Go to Convert to PDF
- Go to the tab called Convert to PDF.

- Select file type
- Then select the file type you want to convert to PDF. For example, choose Word to PDF.

- Select the file to be converted
- Select the file you want to convert by clicking Add File, find the file and then add it.

- Select location
- Choose where you want to place the file you are going to convert; you can change this by clicking the three dots (...) next to Output Path.

- Convert the file
- When you have selected the file and location for the file, click Convert to convert the file to PDF.

- Use the file
- When you have converted the file, you can locate the file and start using it.
Sign PDF file with certificate
With PDFgear you have the option to sign PDF files digitally with a certificate. Note that this is a certificate you create yourself, since it is not issued by an approved issuer. You will notice that the certificate is not “trusted” or approved. It can still be used to give the PDF file authenticity. See also the guide on how to “Sign PDF with digital signature”.
- Open PDFgear
- Start by opening the PDFgear program in the UiO Program Kiosk.
- Go to the Protect tab
- Go to the tab called Protect.

- Select method
- Then select Encrypt with Certificate.

- Select the area
- Then select the area in the file that will be signed with the certificate.

- Create Digital ID
- Then create a new digital ID / certificate by clicking + New Digital ID.

- Then select A new digital ID I want to create now.

- Fill in the fields with the required information.

- Create a password for the certificate, then click OK to save it.

- Sign the PDF file
- Then select the certificate you created from the list and enter the password. Then click Sign to sign the file.

- Save the signed PDF file
- After you have signed the PDF file, remember to save it so that the file is signed with the certificate.

In case of error:
If you experience that the program will not save the signed PDF file, you must add an area for certificate signature in the PDF file.
- Add signature field
- Select Add Signature Field from the menu at the top.

- Select the area
- Then select again the area that will be signed with a certificate.

- Add signature
- Then click Sign Here to add a certificate signature.

- Select the certificate
- Then select the certificate you have created from the list and enter the password for the certificate. Then click Sign to sign the PDF file.

- Signed PDF file
- When you have signed the PDF file, you will see that the signature appears in the area you selected for the signature in the PDF file. Remember to save the PDF file.

Insert digital signature in the PDF file
With PDFgear you have the option to insert a digital signature in the PDF file. You can create a digital signature from an image (e.g. a logo), with text or by drawing a signature.
- Open PDFgear
- Start by opening the PDFgear program in the UiO Program Kiosk.
- Go to the Protect tab
- Go to the tab called Protect.

- Select Signature
- Select Signature from the menu at the top, then click Create Signature to create a new signature.

- Select method
- Select the desired method for how you want to create the new signature. You can choose between Picture, Type or Write. For example, select Type to create a signature from text.

- Enter signature
- Then enter the text for the signature you want to create. When you are satisfied with the signature, select OK to save the signature.

- Place the signature
- Then place the signature you have created in the PDF file. Remember to save the file afterwards.

Protect PDF file with password
With PDFgear you have the option to protect a PDF file with a password you create yourself, so that you must enter a password each time the PDF file is opened.
- Open PDFgear
- Start by opening the PDFgear program in the UiO Program Kiosk.
- Go to the Protect tab
- Go to the tab called Protect.

- Select Password
- Then select Password from the menu at the top.

- Create a password
- Then create a password to protect the PDF file, and click OK to save the password. Remember to save the PDF file afterwards so that it is protected with the password you created.
