Travel insurance
- Trips paid for by credit card
- If you have paid the trip with a credit card, you may be covered by an automatic insurance for a specific number of days. This depends on the type of card you used and the issuer of the card, and you should always check the details of this coverage before departure.
- If you have paid the trip with your UiO credit card, you have travel insurance for trips lasting up to 90 days. Read more about the terms of the Insurance (eurocarde.no).
- Travel insurance for business travel in Norway
- 'Business travel' is travel of non-permanent nature that a supervisor has required or allowed you to undertake and for which expenses are covered by the unit/University's ordinary funds.
- During business trips in Norway, you are covered according to the Government travel allowance scale for domestic travel, Section 12 (lovdata.no) (Norwegian):
- In the event of illness and/or injury, expenses are covered for necessary treatment and documented expenses for repatriation that are not covered by the National Insurance Scheme or other schemes.
- Damage to or loss of ordinary luggage is covered by up to NOK 30,000.
- Governmental employers are by law self-insurers and therefore not entitled to sign travel or accident insurance agreements with insurance companies.
- There are special provisions for death or disability for state employees on business trips, cf. Special agreement on insurance and compensation schemes for state employees on business trips and when stationed abroad (lovdata.no) (Norwegian).
- In the event of accident or theft, private insurance must be utilised prior to the Government's own insurance.

Occupational injury insurance
- UiO employees are covered by occupational injury insurance in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (spk.no). Pursuant to further conditions, the insurance covers occupational injuries and occupational illness for injuries that have arisen while working, at the workplace and during working hours.
- Employees who are covered by the Basic Collective Agreement in the State are additionally covered by the regulations in the agreement's joint provisions on benefits in the event of occupational injury. The injured person is entitled to compensation in accordance with the regulations which provide the best compensation as a whole.

Life insurance
- UiO employees are covered by group life insurance in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (spk.no) which safeguards survivors a single lump sum payment in the event of an employee's death.
- The group life insurance scheme is not part of the members' rights in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, but is part of the pay conditions for employees who are covered by the Basic Collective Agreement in the State. Therefore the scheme applies to almost all State employees, including temporary staff and part-time employees who have fixed weekly working hours.
- The size of the insurance payment is linked to the National Insurance Scheme basic amount (G):
- If you are survived by a spouse, cohabitant or partner, the amount constitutes 10 times the National Insurance Scheme basic amount (10 G).
- In addition, each child under the age of 25 is paid 4 G.
- If you are not survived by a spouse, cohabitant or partner, each child under the age of 25 is paid 5 G.
- When the insurance is disbursed to the decedent's estate, the payment is 3 G.
Compensation for loss of private assets in service
- Pursuant to further regulations, it is possible for employees of the State to receive compensation of up to NOK 20,000 in the event of damage to or loss of private items in connection with service. See the provisions in the State Personnel Handbook section 10.22 (lovdata.no) (Norwegian).
Insurance against loss of UiO's assets
- The State is a 'self-insurer'. This means that units at UiO shall ordinarily not sign special insurance agreements and must cover any loss and theft of equipment from their own resources.
- Insurance agreements may be signed in special cases. This applies, for example, if you are exposing expensive technical equipment to dangerous situations or bringing it to a country where there is a fair chance it may be stolen.
