This represents a modest increase compared to the previous year in terms of applicants (10 128), offers (5 228), and accepted offers (3 036).

– Master’s programmes at UiO continue to be popular, with high competition for places in the most sought-after programmes, vicerector Bj?rn Stensaker at UiO says.

The most attractive master's programmes represent a wide range of disciplines from all faculties.

– We recruit well to a large proportion of our master's programmes. The connection to our many highly competent research environments is clearly very attractive to students with a strong academic motivation, says Stensaker.

Master’s Programmes in Informatics are still popular at UiO

UiO has seen an increase in both applicants and qualified candidates to the master's programmes in informatics. There were over 150 more applicants and 60 more accepted offers to these programs this year compared to last year.

International Applicants

The international master's admission was conducted earlier this spring. While UiO still has fewer applicants from countries outside Europe compared to the period before the introduction of tuition fees, many offers have been sent to international applicants in 2025. A total of 1 024 offers were sent to applicants from countries outside the Nordic region, representing nearly 20% of all offers. This marks a slight increase from the 891 who were offered a place in 2024.

Additionally, there has been a significant increase in offers to applicants from the Nordic countries, from 144 in 2024 to 541 in 2025.

– UiO is an internationally oriented university, and it is important for us to attract students from all over the world. International students contribute to higher quality in our educational programmes. It is encouraging that more students from the Nordic countries and other European nations wish to pursue a master’s degree at UiO, says Stensaker.

It is also encouraging that UiO will welcome 25 students from developing countries through the NORSTIP scholarship programme in the upcoming academic year.
